Agapanthus, loves the sun and creates a beautiful display of white or violet globe shape colors.They are used in gardens as well as street landscaping in borders and they complement many landscaping for major urban citiscapes and office buildings. The flowers are a set of trumpet shaped flowers that form in a shape of a ball or a globe. The name is composed of greek (agape) meaning love, and (anthos) meaning flower, but also commonly know as Lily of the Nile though not really a Lily that is the popular name. It is native to South Africa.

Miniature Agapanthus

There are a lot of varieties some of which include: Agapanthus africanus, Agapanthus campanulatus, Agapanthus caulescens, Agapanthus comptonii, Agapanthus inapertus, Agapanthus nutans, Agapanthus orientalis, Agapanthus praecox (Lily of the Nile), and Agapanthus walshii. In colder climates the bulb should be planted deeper and mulch used in colder weather. Some varieties of Agapanthus is considered invasive weed but it is definitely a very beautiful one.
