The genus Magnolia is comprised of two subgenera Magnolia and Yulania. Magnolia subgenera contains the American evergreen species M. grandiflora. Yulania comprise the Asiatic species of Magnolia which deciduous. Magnolias like full sun to partial shade. They grow in clay, loam or sand soils but do better in well drained soil. There are more than 200 species of Magnolia. Magnolia wood bark is easily damaged.
