Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’

Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’ also is known as Obedient Plant ‘Vivid’ or False Dragonhead ‘Vivid’. It is a perennial from the Lamiaceae family of plants. It is clump-forming and rhizomatous.

It flowers in mid-summer with purplish-pink flowers. Spikes of tubular flowers on a stock that grows up to 30in or 75cm tall. The flowers open from the bottom up. It is native to North America. It is usually growing in meadows and river banks.

How to grow Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’:

Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’ prefers the sun. Grow it in moist, acidic, humus-rich well-drained soil but can grow in partial shade as well.  However, too rich of soil or too much shade can make them flop. Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’ is a rhizomatous perennial and can be propagated by division in winter or early spring. Physostegia virginiana ‘Vivid’ is disease-free or pest-free. Watch out for aphids and spider mites.
