Bergenia cordifolia ‘Abendglut’

Bergenia cordifolia ‘Abendglut’ or also known as Heart-leaf Bergenia is a rhizomatous perennial. These Bergenias have very large leathery leaves that in colder climates change color to bronze-red. The bell-shaped purple-pink flowers also bloom on a bronze-colored stem to a height of 1 or 2 feet.  Bergenia are excellent ground covers and look beautiful in borders or rock gardens.

Bergenia like the sun or partial shade and plant them in moist, fertile well-drained soil. Dry soils tend to slow down the growth of these plants. Bergenia cordifolia ‘Abendglut’ is a clump-forming plant and will need to be divided when the center dies down. This plant is part of the Saxifragaceae family of plants.

About Dino

Dino
I am a flower enthusiast and a gardener at heart. Ever since childhood I loved reading about plants and started gardening at an early age. First by helping my father in the garden and later managing a large garden myself in my teen years. I planted and cared for a large number of plants, flowers, and trees both outdoors and in a greenhouse. To this day I enjoy visiting gardens and parks and learning about new and old specimens and varieties of plants.
