Since it is usually used as a hedge the branches that bear flowers are cut, otherwise, it would have fragrant flowers that draw bees and birds.
This Japanese Privet or Ligustrum japonicum is a hardy plant that is more manageable than the usual Privet which has gained the reputation of overgrowing and self-seeding. Ligustrum japonicum is part of the Oleaceae family of plants. It is native to Japan and Korea.
The variety ‘Texanum’ originated in Texas, U.S.A. but it has become a popular plant in California and is commonly known as Waxleaf Privet. It grows from 6ft to 8 ft or 2m to 2.8m. It can also be grown in pots. Though there is actually a California Privet or Ligustrum ovalifolium that grows to 15ft or 5m. It is drought-tolerant and makes a good hedge.
