Ligustrum japonicum ‘Texanum’ or Privet

Deciduous/evergreen shrub which is ideal for hedges. Ligustrum japonicum ‘Texanum’ or Privet has beautiful clusters of white flowers and small berry-like fruit. Since it is usually used as a hedge the branches that bear flowers are cut otherwise it would have fragrant flowers that draw bees and birds.

This Japanese Privet or Ligustrum japonicum is a hardy plant that is more manageable than the usual Privet which has gained the reputation of overgrowing and self-seeding. The variety ‘Texanum’ originated in Texas, U.S.A. but it has become a popular plant in California and is commonly known as Waxleaf Privet. It grows from 6ft to 8 ft or 2m to 2.8m. It can also be grown in pots. Though there is actually a California Privet or Ligustrum ovalifolium that grows to 15ft or 5m. It is drought-tolerant and makes a good hedge.

About Online Flower Garden & Dino

Dino
I am a flower enthusiast and a gardener at heart. Ever since childhood I loved reading about plants and started gardening at an early age. First by helping my father in the garden and later managing a large garden myself in my teen years. I planted and cared for a large number of plants, flowers, and trees both outdoors and in a greenhouse. To this day I enjoy visiting gardens and parks and learning about new and old specimens and varieties of plants.
