Ajuga reptans ‘Braunherz’

Ajuga reptans ‘Braunherz’ is a mat-forming, rhizomatous perennial. It is part of the Lamiaceae family of plants. They also call it Bugle ‘Brauherz’, Blue Bugle ‘Brauherz’, Bugleweed ‘Brauherz’. Brauherz is a hybrid, the origin of its parents is in Europe. It grows to about 35cm or 14in tall. Ajuga reptans ‘Braunherz’ is evergreen.

The leaves are oval, spoon-shaped. They are deep purple in color and are glossy. The flowers are blue and grow in spikes about 8in or 20cm tall. Ajuga reptans ‘Braunherz’ flowers in late spring and early summer, but usually in April and May.

Grow Ajuga reptans ‘Braunherz’ in the sun, partial shade or full shade. To get maximum color in the leaves, provide some sun. In the shade, the leaves usually stay green. Plant it in moist, but well-drained soil. Deadhead the flowers. Propagate by division. It is easy to maintain, and an ideal plant for planting under trees. It is generally disease-free and pest-free.
