Rose, or Rosa ‘Charles Darwin’, or Auspeet is an English shrub rose and part of the Rosaceae family of plants. This is a David Austin rose. They named it after Charles Robert Darwin (1809-1882), the British naturalist who introduced the scientific theory of evolution.

This hybrid rose was introduced in 2003 at the Chelsea Flower Show. David Austin has been breeding English roses for over 60 years.

The flower is yellow or golden, with a strong fragrance. It produces round buds opening into shallow cup shape roses. Rosa ‘Charles Darwin’ grows to about 4.5ft or 1.5m tall and about the same width. Rosa ‘Charles Darwin’ is thornless or almost thornless. It flowers from late spring into autumn.

How to grow Rosa ‘Charles Darwin’:

Grow Rosa ‘Charles Darwin’ in the sun or partial shade. Plant it in rich, fertile, moist but well-drained soil. It will take most soil types.
