Aeonium arboreum ‘Atropurpureum’

Aeonium arboreum ‘Atropurpureum’, is also called the Dark Purple Houseleek Tree, Irish Rose, Tree Aeonium. It is a member of the Crassulaceae family of plants. Aeonium arboreum ‘Atropurpureum’ is an evergreen sub-shrub with deep red burgundy leaves. It is succulent. It has yellow flowers in spring but it is the leaves that are really showy.

The leaves are flattened rosettes. They are obovate to oblate. Aeonium arboreum is native to the Canary Islands.

Grow it in the sun and plant it in well-drained soil. Aeonium arboreum ‘Atropurpureum’ grows almost 1m or 3ft tall. This is a mild climate plant and in colder climates, it should be grown in a container.
