Curcuma ‘Maetang No 1’ is a hybrid, cultivated in Thailand and belongs to the Zingiberaceae family of plants. It is a rhizomatous, herbaceous perennial, and is tulip ginger. This taller hybrid is excellent for cuttings.

The name is from Latin, Curcuma refers to Turmeric. Curcuma ‘Maetang No 1’ grows to about 40cm or 16in tall. It has large green foliage. The flowers have pink bracts with green and red edges and markings.
How to grow Curcuma ‘Maetang No 1’:
Grow Curcuma ‘Maetang No 1’ in the sun or partial shade. Plan it in loamy, fertile, moist but well-drained soil. In hot weather provide some shade. Water regularly as long as the soil is well-drained so it does not get soggy. After flowering gradually reduce water to prepare for dormancy. Fertilize in the growing season. Watch out for spider mites, slugs, and snails.
