Snapdragon or Antirrhinum

Antirrhinum or Snapdragons come in varieties of colors and sizes ranging from 4″ to 3ft. Snapdragons are perennials but usually grown as annuals. Antirrhinum is from the Plantaginaceae family of plants. They also call them Dragon Flower. They are native to Europe, North America, and North Africa.

They like the sun and are at their best in spring and summer. Antirrhinum flowers have 5 lobes, and when you pinch the side it looks like a dragon opening its jaw. You can grow Snapdragons from seed in summer to early spring. Rust is the most serious problem, so try growing rust-resistant varieties of Snapdragons.

Snapdragons make good cut flowers and you will find them in many flower arrangements. They look beautiful with Delphiniums and irises.

About Online Flower Garden & Dino

I am a flower enthusiast and a gardener at heart. Ever since childhood I loved reading about plants and started gardening at an early age. First by helping my father in the garden and later managing a large garden myself in my teen years. I planted and cared for a large number of plants, flowers, and trees both outdoors and in a greenhouse. To this day I enjoy visiting gardens and parks and learning about new and old specimens and varieties of plants.
