Plantaginaceae is the Plantain Family. It is from the order of Lamiales. This family only has 94 genera and 1900 species. The largest genus is Veronica with 450 species. Plantaginaceae now includes many species from the Scrophulariaceae family. Some of the familiar names in the Plantaginaceae family are Veronica, Foxglove, Snapdragon, and Plantain.

Plantaginaceae has had one of the more controversial histories and reorganization of the species from the former Scrophulariales into Lamiales. Genetic studies revealed that earlier morphologically based delimitations of families, such as Scrophulariaceae, do not support common ancestry assumptions.

Therefore, many of the any species from the Scrophulariaceae family have been placed in Plantaginaceae or the plantain family. The current Plantaginaceae family includes Antirrhinum, commonly known as Snapdragon, Veronica or commonly known as Speedwell, Penstemon or commonly known as Beardtongue, Linaria commonly known as Toadflax, and Digitalis commonly known as Foxglove, as well as Plantago or commonly known as Plantain.

Plantaginaceae members are herbaceous and diverse. The Foxgloves Digitalis lanata and Digitalis purpurea are scientifically important species as they are the sources of digoxin and digitoxin, used in drugs treating irregular heart rhythms.
