Penstemon ‘Pensham Czar’
is bi-colored species of Penstemon that has purple edges and throat of the bell-shaped flower is white. It is a late flowering variety and looks beautifully mixed in the border or tall grass. It is one of the Pensham Series, it is a wonderful hardy perennial part of the Plantaginaceae family pf plants. Plant these flowers in the sun or partial shade in moist but well-drained soil. Penstemon ‘Pensham Czar’ flowers from June to October, protect the plants in cold winters. You can propagate by seed but best is to divide them in spring.

Penstemon ‘Pensham Czar’ attracts bees, The flower stems can grow as tall as 90cm or 36in. The name Pensham is due to its breeder Edward Wilson of Pensham located in the UK. Edward Wilson, 1948-2009 was born in London and spent his childhood living in a house opposite Kew Gardens, he later specialized in horticulture after marrying he settled in the village of Pensham in Worcestershire. He started a business called Penshore Plant Raisers growing vegetables and salads, later he expanded into other flowers and plants. In 1985 they started Penstemon breeding and in the next years, he bred and marketed almost 50 varieties.
