Solanum Laciniatum

Native to New Zealand, it is also known as the Kangaroo Apple Plant it is part of the Solanaceae family of plants. Solanum laciniatum is a bush that can grow up to 3m or 10ft.

Solanum laciniatum has beautiful purple flowers which later develop into egg-shaped orange fruit. It thrives in partial shade or sun, well-drained but moist soil. You can propagate from seed or cuttings. You can remove seeds from the fruit but if it is fresh it helps to soak it overnight before sowing it. Germination can take up to 3 weeks. Solanum laciniatum usually flowers from early summer to October. Note the unripe fruit is poisonous.
