The plants in the Campanulaceae family are diverse from all continents except the Sahara and Antarctica. They are also from diverse habitats including deserts and rainforests. Campanulaceae includes perennials, biennials, and annuals. They are mostly ornamental. They also share phloem or a system that produces a latex liquid. This is sap or liquid that discourages animals and insects to feed on them. They also share food storage systems they are not like other plants and they store it as inulin. The leaves are simple. Most members have five-part flowers with ovaries positioned lower below the flower parts. Petals are united.

Many of the Campanulaceae members are garden plants. Most of the flowers are Red, Purple or Blue, and occasionally yellow. Some of the species in Campanulaceae provide chemical compounds. One such chemical is Lobeline which is a mild narcotic. It is similar to nicotine but not addictive.

About Online Flower Garden & Dino

I am a flower enthusiast and a gardener at heart. Ever since childhood I loved reading about plants and started gardening at an early age. First by helping my father in the garden and later managing a large garden myself in my teen years. I planted and cared for a large number of plants, flowers, and trees both outdoors and in a greenhouse. To this day I enjoy visiting gardens and parks and learning about new and old specimens and varieties of plants.
